The US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has thrown out an appeal seeking $625.5 million in damages from Apple for the alleged infringement of three patents. Filed by the Connecticut-based company Mirror Worlds, the appeal followed a lengthy legal process in which the firm was first granted the payment before the verdict was overturned by a judge. Mirror Worlds claimed that it owned patents covering Apple's Cover Flow music browser, its Spotlight desktop search tool, and Time Machine, it's automatic backup feature, and sought damages based on the features' use in OS X versions from 10.4 Tiger onwards. The Cover Flow claim also targeted the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
